SEO Advice Ad text vs Keywords explained

3 minute read

To start off with, when you look to advertise with the major search engines (Bing, Google and Yahoo), there are in fact multiple criteria of options, costs to set and so on. To keep it simple we will be focusing on "keywords" and "ad text".

What are keywords?
Keywords are a collection of terms used to help describe your product or service. For example a supermarket sells food. They could include keywords like bread, wholemeal, loaf, bakery. Another example being Birak IT offering services like online backup, data recovery, website design and hosting.

What is ad text?
Ad text is the words used to sell yourself. On the search results for supermarket you would see:
-Buy bread at Sainsburys.
-Wholemeal bread from Kingsmill.

For Birak IT we could advertise with:
-Online backup services from Hampshire based IT provider.
-Lost files can be recovered by the team in Southampton.
-Want a website? Speak to our team.

There are two other parts to an advert:
-Advert url or link: the web address you wish the link will go to if the customer clicks on your advert.
-Advert description: further information to help boost your advert and sell your product or service.
