How do I manage multiple passwords?

2 minute read

We are told to have secure passwords but what is secure? Should we have a minimum number of characters, numbers, symbols and so on. Sometimes you will find a password is too long for the website (arrrgh).

Good and bad passwords
Here is a useful guide covering points we may have missed from the Washington Post. It shows some good and bad examples of passwords and gives reasons why this is the case.

Video for US region

Unlike other videos this highlights our experience with company policies and passwords. We hope you find this helpful. As our example below shows, please don't be like Geoff and write you password down on a sticky note. Don't even use the word "password" in your password.

Managing multiple passwords
There are ways to store passwords on your mobile, web browser and computer. What we suggest is to avould saving on the web browser as this could be taken by third parties with little effort.

Could you save passwords on your mobile phone?
Yes, however your mobile is insecure as it could be accessed by family at home, left unlocked or even stolen. Most mobile users have a simple password, so the security is a concern.

What do we recommend?
A password manager. There are lots out there and what to pick can be a mind field.
